Halloween is a great time to dress up in cool costumes and go around the neighborhood trick-or-treating. However, the team at Foothills Weight Loss Surgeons in Knoxville know this day can be a challenge for those who are trying to lose weight.

Halloween is fun but the treats handed out are often very high in sugar.

Overconsumption of refined sugar is one of the culprits of the growing problem of obesity. 

The problem with many sugary treats is that they don’t really satisfy you. They make you crave more sugar without providing much nutritional value.

Have a Healthy Halloween

Losing weight and enjoying Halloween doesn’t have to be troublesome. You can enjoy both by being mindful and focusing more on what really matters most on this day.

  • Eat before trick-or-treating 

Just like when grocery shopping, eating before going trick-or-treating reduces your chances of eating items that you would otherwise avoid when you’re full. This also keeps you from overindulging on candies to satisfy your hunger.

Having a filling meal before going trick-or-treating, one loaded with a healthy balance of vegetables, protein, and fat can help you stay on track with your weight loss goals.

  • Make the most of trick-or-treat

Instead of driving around, go trick-or-treating on foot. It’s more fun and can give you hours of a cardio workout. 

  • Just pick one or two

Eating a small treat or two won’t derail you from your goal. What would derail you is overindulging on them.

Just pick one or two treats to keep and donate or give away the rest. If you’re a parent, you can implement this rule for your kids.

  • Stock up on your favorite healthy snacks
    You may not go trick-or-treating but your workplace can be a huge temptation island. 

If you find it hard to resist treats that you see every day, get the permission to have it out of your sight. It can also help to stock up on your favorite healthy snacks on your desk.
